Welcome back to the Victoria Ground at Step 3

Last time I wrote an article for the programme it was the day of the play-off final v Corby – in anticipation of us returning to Step 3 football. Delighted to be able to do this and for Bromsgrove football to be back at this level – now bettering the level that the old Bromsgrove Rovers were playing at when they finally went out of business.

Testament to all the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes over the last 10 years – some of these people no longer with us or no longer with the club – but I’m sure everyone will look back with fondness at where the club is now. Could have easily been Aldi!

Lastly what a fantastic game the Corby game was – great advert for Non-League football with the game ebbing and flowing. I personally felt that a draw in normal time was about the balanced result – but we were much the better side in extra time and it was in the stars that we went up. The guys from the blog “Two Men in search of the beautiful game” are going to do a bigger review of that game here in a few weeks.

I particularly liked the comment from my friend on the terrace “Oh, what’s Kieren cutting inside for now”. Glad he did!

As per last season – we say goodbye to a couple of players – Jason Cowley making a fantastic step up to Stevenage and Aaron Roberts to Evesham. Both loyal and great servants to Bromsgrove. Hopefully one day we will see back in Bromsgrove colours and if not will be around the ground if they have a free day.

Stepping up to a new challenge will always be tough – but from the signings we have made I feel with have strengthened. Players from the level above will provide both competition and experience – we may see some players who were successful last year move on eventually but that is football unfortunately!

Personally, I am a pleased to see Leon Broadhurst here – having know him and his family for a long time. Having just completed his family with a baby boy to join three daughters – he can focus on football again! Welcome to the other new players who have joined us too.

As per previous season’s there are plenty of opportunities to help with the football club in whatever way you can – volunteering, suggesting an idea or helping me out with this column. Please get in touch – in the spirit of a community club everyone has a part they can play.

If you offer to play, it may be declined though.

Enjoy the game and lets get off to a winning start!
